Preventive Dentistry
Did you know, Tooth decay can be prevented!
We at Star Kids Dental Clinic truly believe that “Prevention is better than Cure” and strongly recommend preventive dentistry as we care a lot for our patient’s well-being.
The following preventive services are available which will help prevent dental problems to occur or stop them in their initial stages:

-
Professional cleaning and polishing of teeth form the foundation for preventing gum disease and tooth decay.
-
Cleaning includes removal of plaque and calculus/tartar. Plaque is a sticky substance that forms in the mouth from food, saliva and bacteria, known to cause tooth decay and gum disease. Calculus is plaque that has hardened on the tooth surface and is difficult to remove.
-
Polishing aids in removal of stains, making your child’s teeth shine brighter.

Fluoride is a mineral universally known to strengthen teeth and prevent tooth decay.
-
At the clinic, we professionally apply this fluoride in the form of specialized varnish/gel onto the tooth surfaces of children above 3 years of age.
-
Depending on the oral health status of the child, periodic fluoride treatments are recommended every three, six or 12 months.

-
Your child’s back teeth are especially vulnerable to tooth decay due to deep pits and grooves on the biting surfaces. These areas allow food to remain stuck to the tooth and also make it difficult to be cleaned.
-
Sealants help to protect teeth by filling these grooves and pits thereby preventing decay and creates a smooth surface that is easily cleaned.
-
The application of a sealant is quick and comfortable.
-
Made of clear or shaded color resin material, sealants are less time consuming and a much better financial investment than treating decay after it has started.

Sealants

-
Since primary teeth guide the permanent teeth into place, children with missing milk teeth or those who prematurely lose milk teeth may require a space maintainer, a device used to hold the natural space open.
-
Without this appliance, the adjacent teeth can tilt towards the empty space causing obstruction to underlying permanent teeth which may get blocked or erupt/come in crooked manner leading to orthodontic and esthetic problems.
-
In order to prevent these problems, we may recommend the use of space maintainers for your child.
